Buck Creek Players and Director Cathy Cutshall and Vocal Director Joseph Burke are excited to announce their upcoming production of BETWEEN THE LINES with Music and Lyrics by Elyssa Samsel & Kate Anderson and Book by Timothy Allen McDonald and Jodi Picoult, based on the novel by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer. BETWEEN THE LINES is an empowering and enchanting new musical for anyone who has ever sought to find their place in the world. An outsider in a new town and a new school, Delilah seeks comfort in the pages of her favorite book, where she feels heard and understood by the handsome Prince Oliver. But as the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur in both extraordinary and astonishing ways, Delilah discovers how to find her place in the real world while keeping her dreams alive. Buck Creek Players is pleased to kick-off our 51st season with this live event on our mainstage. Join us for the six live in-person performances at the playhouse starting Friday, August 16th and running through Sunday, August 25th. |

CAST BIOGRAPHIES
SOPHIA CLARK (Delilah McPhee) is 17 years old. She returns to Buck Creek Players where she had her musical theatre debut as an ensemble member in BUGSY MALONE in 2015 at the age of 8. Since then, she was Ariel in THE LITTLE MERMAID JR at Footlite Musicals. She played Lucy in 13 at Summer Stock Stage. She was the Baker's Wife in INTO THE WOODS JR at Jin-Eun-Lee Music Academy. Most recently, Sophia was an ensemble member in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Footlite Musicals. She graduated high school two years early and is currently working on college applications to multiple universities to major in musical theatre. When she's not on stage, she is a Starbucks barista and she enjoys spending time with her little brother, James, and little sisters, Nadia and Piper. Her favorite show is The Vampire Diaries. Her favorite artists are Renee Rapp and Chappell Roan. She would like to thank her mom and Nadia for always helping her memorize lines. She would like to thank her dad and Julia for all her after rehearsal snacks. Also, thank you to her whole family for believing in her; and thank you to the cast and crew for making this possible!

JOHNATHON PERKINSON (Prince Oliver) Johnathon is currently entering his senior year at IUI, formerly IUPUI, majoring in elementary education with a mathematics minor. He has always loved doing theatre and this is his first show since high school. His previous roles include Lord Farquaad in SHREK THE MUSICAL and Scuttle in THE LITTLE MERMAID. Johnathon is so excited to be a part of this cast and to be able to make his debut here at Buck Creek Players! |
HALEY STROUP is elated to be playing GRACE/QUEEN MAUREEN in BETWEEN THE LINES! This is Haley's first show at Buck Creek, and she is incredibly grateful for the opportunity. Haley is one of the directors at Franklin Central High School, alongside Daniel Lyng. There, she has directed THE ADDAMS FAMILY, MAMMA MIA, THIS RANDOM WORLD, and LITTLE WOMEN THE MUSICAL, and she is currently working on 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL! Haley is also currently working on getting her masters in directing at The University of Idaho. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, hiking, and spending time with her family. She would like to thank her family, friends, colleagues, and most importantly, her fiancé Shelby for their constant support. Enjoy the show!

JAZLIN HERBERT (Allie McAndrews and Princess Seraphima) This is the first time Jazlin has had the pleasure of working with Buck Creek Players. An Indiana University Indianapolis student, some of her favorite productions include MAMMA MIA, THE LITTLE MERMAID, and LEGALLY BLONDES. When not on stage, she is working on pursuing her degree in Music Therapy. She is looking forward to being able to get back into musical theatre and and get to perform in this fun musical. As always, she would like to thank her family and friends for their constant love and support. |
CONNIE SALVINI THOMPSON (Jules/Ondine) is proud to return to Buck Creek's welcoming stage! A Martinsville resident, their previous roles include Rapunzel’s Prince in INTO THE WOODS at Merry MAC Players, Twyla in SHARTT'$ CREEK LIVE with Circle City Improv, and Mrs. Kirk/Ensemble in LITTLE WOMEN: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL at Buck Creek Players. Her other credits include assistant directing and designing and operating sound and lights for various shows at BCP, as well as performing with the all-drag improv comedy group Pink Slip. She would like to thank director Cathy Cutshall for the opportunity to play her first trans character! |
THOMAS ZOTZ (Ryan/Frump) makes his debut with Buck Creek Players after most recently being a part of Footlite Musicals in “AN AMERICAN IN PARIS” as Mr. Z/Ensemble. He is excited for his first show here with this new group of talented people. Some favorite roles include Ambrose in HELLO DOLLY, Perch Perkins in SPONGEBOB THE MUSICAL, and MOOSE in CRAZY FOR YOU. Hobbies of his include dance, playing games (both board and video), and doing shows. He would like to thank his family for always supporting him in his endeavors, Cathy Cutshall, the director, for giving him a chance to perform for Buck Creek, Joe Burke, the Vocal director, for introducing him to Buck Creek and helping him improve for the show, and all the rest of the Buck Creek staff and Orchestra. CLAIRE GRAY (Janice/Marina/Fairy) is back at Buck Creek players for her third show here! Last scene on the stage here has Lucinda in Into The Woods, and Pickles in The Great American Trailer Park. Other recent roles include Rosie in Mamma Mia! and Paulette In Legally Blonde at MV Theatre. Claire would like to thank the cast for all their hard work and laughs through out this production.

MYRAN DUNAHEE (Martin/Troll) is here for his second show at Buck Creek. He is a senior at Mount Vernon high school. He has been in 24 musicals this being his 25th. Some of Myran's favorites have been MAMMA MIA, NEWSIES and doing Lights at Buck Creek for INTO THE WOODS. He has loved being able to be at Buck Creek and grow as an actor and enjoy being in the theater community. All of this would not have been able to be done without the help and support from his family and friends.

ALYSSA LINVILLE (Ms Winx/Miss Brown/Kyrie/Jessamyn Jacobs) is so excited to make her debut with Buck Creek Players. Her recent credits include Margo in BRIGHT STAR, ensemble in YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN, ensemble in HELLO DOLLY, and Hotbox Girl/Mission Girl in GUYS AND DOLLS all at Footlite Musicals. Alyssa has also directed many plays and musicals at Footlite and in schools including SEUSSICAL JR, FROZEN JR., GIRLS ON THE BOAT, and ANNIE JR. When she is not at the theatre she is teaching middle school Language arts, cooking, snuggling her two dogs, or spending time with family and friends. Alyssa would like to thank her wonderful husband for all of his support. Enjoy the show!!!

JAYDIS SORDELET (Dr. Ducharme/Rapskulio) performs her first show with Buck Creek in BETWEEN THE LINES The Musical. As a freshman going into sophomore year, her favorite past roles have been J. Finch Fletchley in PUFFS!, Monkey in ILLINOIS JANE AND THE RAINFOREST OF RETRIBUTION, many SCORE! THEATRE productions, and most recently as Laurie Lawrence in LITTLE WOMEN THE MUSICAL. Other plays and musicals include LAW&ORDER: FAIRYTALE UNIT, THE ALIBIS, HONK JR., and MAMMA MIA! During her free time, Jaydis picks up on many hobbies including drawing, making music, singing, and more. Her next performance will be 9 TO 5 as Mr. Tinsworth and ensemble. She is looking forward to many more performances in the future and thanks everyone who has helped her every step of the way.

ELLANOR ARKINS (Ensemble) is excited to make her debut with Buck Creek as the Ensemble of BETWEEN THE LINES. Though this is her first time performing with Buck Creek, Ellanor has been in a few stage productions in the past. Her favorite roles include Melpomone in XANADU JR, Ursula in THE LITTLE MERMAID JR, and Mrs. Potts in BEAUTY AND THE BRAST JR. Aside from theatre, Ellanor enjoys crocheting and writing. She would like to thank her parents, especially her mom who encouraged her to audition. She wishes all of her castmates the best of luck and can’t wait to start another chapter of her acting career! |
SPENCER REES BLAND (Process Server & Ensemble) has been an entertainer from the moments he learned there was an audience to be captured. He was quite small when he saw the happiness he could bring with connection through dance, jokes, or a simple conversation.
He joined the Franklin Township Community School Corp Junior Thespian Troop in 2021, after he performed in the troop’s rendition of “Fractured Fairy Tails”. Since that time he has become an inducted member of the troop and currently holds a leadership position. He has continued to act with the troop in several lead and supporting roles, has performed as a member of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and his junior high show choir, Vocal Velocity. His first venture in community theatre was with Buck Creek Players in December 2023 as Conner in Dad's Christmas Miracle. Most recently he performed with Carmel Community Players in Anne of Green Gables. He is a big fan of Marvel, Dungeons and Dragons, bike riding, rollercoasters, friends and is thrilled to again be working with all the talented individuals here at Buck Creek Players! |

TYLER RILEY (Producer) Is thrilled to be the producer and learning what’s it like to be behind the scenes of the show. Tyler is also known as "Mr. Personality" because he is probably the biggest introverted extravert there is. Everyone says that he is "one of a kind." Tyler has been involved with community theater, somehow, since 2015 starting with acting on stage to most recently finding a passion with showing his creativity in designing lights. He has designed lights for Shelby County Players young audience production of CINDERELLA, BCP production of ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID and most recently BCP production of DAD’S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE. Tyler has been a school bus driver for five years and currently drives for Shelby Eastern Schools! A very special thank you goes out to Director Cathy Cutshall for being such a great teacher and mentor and letting Tyler produce his first show!

CATHY CUTSHALL (Director) Cathy is thrilled to be a part of the team bringing BCP’s opening production of our 51st season! Cathy has had the pleasure of directing LITTLE WOMEN, The Broadway Musical, MIRACLE ON 34th STREET: A LIVE MUSICAL RADIO PLAY, TRAP!, MAKING GOD LAUGH, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, A LIVE RADIO PLAY (2017 and 2021), and BANANAS at Buck Creek Players, as well as ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST at Shelby County Players. Cathy is also an Encore winner for best costumes for DIRTY BLONDE, BONNIE & CLYDE THE MUSICAL, FOUR OLD BROADS and FLY BABIES. Whether working as a director or costumer, on stage or behind-the-scenes, she has had the pleasure of working in theaters throughout Indiana and New Mexico at Albuquerque Civic Light Opera Association, and Albuquerque Little Theater. Favorite productions include SORDID LIVES, SWEENEY TODD, PARADE, HONK!, CHICAGO, CITY OF ANGELS, ON THE TOWN, HELLO DOLLY, ANYTHING GOES, SINGING IN THE RAIN, SHENANDOAH, THE WIZARD OF OZ, SOUTH PACIFIC, AND GYPSY. In her free time Cathy enjoys reading, sewing, antique shopping, and spending time with family. Up next, Cathy will be taking a long nap! “I’d like to thank my family for their constant love and support, and for letting me have time to play. It’s been an honor to work with this amazing cast and staff!”

JOE BURKE (Vocal Director) is honored to make his debut both with Buck Creek Players and as a vocal director. Joseph studied at University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth focusing on opera and art songs. He has had a lifelong love of musical theatre and performing, which is where he met his wife, Gwen, in middle school. He recently returning to the stage as Cornelius in HELLO, DOLLY! and a Bottle Dancer in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Footlite Musicals. Joseph has loved being on the other side of the stage, working with this young adult cast, and returning to teaching and coaching. He is blown away with the work ethic, talent, and progress made by this incredible cast. When not singing, performing, or coaching, Joseph is a behavior technician at BACA. He enjoys finding new recipes, walking his two puppies, and watching Supernatural with Gwen. Joseph would like to thank Cathy and the production team for this incredible experience, Jill Stewart, and his wife, his dogs - Mookie and Ruthie.

JOSH ROOKS (Assistant Director) is beyond thrilled to be making his directing debut with BETWEEN THE LINES. Josh is no stranger to the Indianapolis theatre scene. Most recently, Josh was seen at Buck Creek Players as Wolf/Steward in the classic musical INTO THE WOODS. Some of his other favorite credits include Shep Henderson in BELL, BOOK, AND CANDLE, Alan in ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS, Duke in THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL, and Jeff in THE CURIOUS SAVAGE. When Josh is not on stage, he can be found in a record shop, singing karaoke, or playing his guitars. Josh would especially like to thank director Cathy Cutshall and Buck Creek Players for the opportunity along with friends, family, and fellow supporters of the arts. “Oh, if life were made of moments even now and then a bad one—! But if life were only moments, then you'd never know you had one.”

TRITSTEN BLAND (Junior Director) for Buck Creek Players production of BETWEEN THE LINES. This is not his first show with Buck Creek. He did lights for DADS CHRISTMAS MIRACLE and sound for BELL BOOK AND CANDIL. He also did several productions for Franklin Central Junior high and high school. He is an inducted member of the high school troop as well as the junior high. As well as all of that he played the piano for the band and was in the marching band. He is going in to his junior year of high school and is ready for it to be done. He is very excited that he gets to be apart of this production. He’d like to thank his father for helping him get his first role. In 2020, his dad asked if he wanted to try out for the junior high’s production of PUFFS. He played the SECOND HEADMASTER. From that point on he knew he love theatre. Not so much as the acting part by for of the behind the seasons.

SUSANNE BUSH (Set Design/Build/Decoration) is thrilled to be working with Buck Creek Players again! Susanne's second home is the theatre. Some of her favorite shows she's been a part of are NOISES OFF, A CHRISTMAS STORY, INTO THE WOODS, MOON OVER THE BREWERY, and A FEW GOOD MEN. She most recently won Encore Awards for her set decoration in LIZZIE BORDEN and GAME'S AFOOT. Susanne homeschools her two younger children, while her oldest is now off at college. She also loves to run and owns her own clothing resale business. She’d like to thank Cathy for letting her take the reins on designing and building this fun set. She hopes you enjoy the show!

JEREMY KAYLOR (Conductor) is thrilled to make his conducting debut at Buck Creek Players. Most recently Jeremy conducted the Pit at Footlite Theaters for AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. Whether it's behind the conductor's podium or behind a music stand playing all the woodwind instruments, Jeremy loves being a part of Indianapolis' Community Theater scene! Jeremy is always in awe and so incredibly thankful for the talented musicians he gets to direct throughout the show. Equally, Jeremy wouldn't be able to keep his musical passions alive without the unwavering support of his husband, Jim.
TISH PORTER (Violin) Tish has played violin in the pit for several community theatres in the Indianapolis area. She is delighted to be back at BUCK CREEK and appreciates the opportunity to spend time with such a great group of talented musicians and artists in this production of BETWEEN THE LINES. Tish also plays in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis. When not “fiddling around” she is a Client Service Manager with CORT Business Services. She hopes you enjoy the show!
KATIE RYAN (Bass Guitar) is excited to perform in the pit orchestra for Buck Creek's production of BETWEEN THE LINES. Other Buck Creek performances include A GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL, DISASTER!, THE RINK, DOG FIGHT, and BONNIE AND CLYDE. She has performed in over 40 musical productions. Katie teaches beginner Orchestra at Kitley Intermediate in Franklin Township. When not performing or teaching, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. She is very thankful for her family's never ending support in all her musical endeavors.
ABBY DAVID (Cello) makes her Buck Creek Players debut after recently playing in the pit for AMERICAN IN PARIS. An IU grad, Abby has performed in a plethora of musicals including BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, FUN HOME, INTO THE WOODS, YANK, & BYE BYE BIRDIE, and with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis and the EMF quartet. While not performing or participating in shenanigans in the pit, Abby is an Optometrist, and Dog mommy. Abby would love to thank her amazing wife Karen for just...everything.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
ELYSSA SAMSEL is a classically trained violinist and pianist. She trained at AMDA as an actress in musical theater. Alongside Kate Anderson, she composed the brand new musicals BETWEEN THE LINES: which premiered in NYC in 2022, and THE BOOK THIEF which toured in the UK last year. She and Kate Anderson were the inhouse songwriters for Central Park (Apple TV+), writing almost 50 songs across all three seasons. They also wrote the songs in Olaf's Frozen Adventure (Disney+). Elyssa has composed score elements for both Central Park and the 2019 film JoJo Rabbit. She recently composed the score for the 2024 Lionsgate feature film “Miller’s Girl”, starring Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega. The film premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival and had a theatrical release in January 2024, and is now available for streaming on Netflix as of April 26th 2024.

KATE ANDERSON is a Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominate songwriter behind Apple TV's Central Park, Disney Animation's "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" (Annie nomination), the off-Broadway Musical "BETWEEN THE LINES", and "THE BOOK THIEF" which just played the Leicester Curve and Coventry's Belgrade Theatre in the UK. The same team just completed "Austenland", which is an adaptation of Shannon Hale's novel of the same title. Kate and Elyssa also contributed the musical episode "Duke the Musical" to Disney Animation's Zootopia + series.

TIMOTHY ALLEN MCDONALD is an award-winning playwright (Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Jim Henson's Emmet Otter, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach) adaptor of over 65 musicals (highlights include Guys and Dolls JR., Getting to Know...The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz YPE, and Les Miserables School Edition). McDonald is also an accomplished director (Dear Edwina produced by multi-Tony award winner Daryl Roth, and The Phantom Tollbooth at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts) and a leading authority on musical theater education. In 1996 McDonald was recruited by Freddie Gershon to develop Music Theatre International's Education Division, working side-by-side with theatrical greats including Cameron Mackintosh, Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Laurents, Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Schwartz and Sheldon Harnick to create age-appropriate adaptations of musicals. In 1997 McDonald founded iTheatrics to continue and expand the work he began at MTI by developing educational musical theatre adaptations and resources for Tams-Witmark, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Samuel French. McDonald is the founder of the Junior Theater Festival, the world's largest festival exclusively dedicated to young people performing musical theater which is held annually in Atlanta, GA over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Believing that every child everywhere should have access to quality arts programs, Tim has developed several nationwide initiatives which build sustainable musical theater programs in underserved schools. These programs include NBC's Smash Make A Musical, Educational Theatre Association's JumpStart Theater, New York City's Department of Education's Shubert Foundation/MTI Broadway Junior Program and The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities' Turnaround Arts Initiative. Tim has had the unique honor of seeing Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka performed at the White House for President and Mrs. Bush and directing Sarah Jessica Parker and a troupe of the most wonderful girls at the first ever White House Talent Show for President and Mrs. Obama. JODI PICOULT is the #1 bestselling author of 29 novels, with 40 million copies sold worldwide. In August, her thirtieth novel, By Any Other Name, will be published.
