Charles Schulz’s beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner’s classic musical, YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn’t give her the time of day; perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus; Snoopy is in the doghouse; and “blockhead,” himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven Day, from wild optimism to utter despair. Whether you’re keen to fly with the Red Baron, moon over the Moonlight Sonata, or just do your best to find “Happiness,” YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN is a crowd-pleasing classic for all ages!
Baritone/Tenor. The main character; a loveable loser. A child possessed of endless determination and hope, but who is ultimately dominated by his insecurities and a permanent case of bad luck.
Soprano. Charlie Brown's younger sister. She has a “take it easy” approach to life, preferring to slide by while doing as little work as possible. Convinced she’s right until someone proves her wrong. Has a good heart and a strong moral sense; extremely sensitive to the unfairness of life.
LINUS VAN PELT
Baritone. Charlie Brown's blanket-toting best friend and Sally's love interest. Though young, Linus is unusually smart, and he acts as philosopher and theologian.
LUCY VAN PELT
Mezzo-Soprano/Belter. Linus' older sister. A crabby and cynical little girl, she is bossy and selfish and often referred to as the world’s greatest fuss-budget. She has a romantic side too. She’s in love with Schroeder. (Note: The female playing LUCY will be asked to belt heavily, and sometimes not in a pretty manner.)
Tenor. Charlie Brown’s ubiquitous dog. A dog who thinks he is a person (or sometimes forgets he is a dog.) He retreats into his own fanciful world in order to survive; otherwise he leads kind of a dull, miserable life as a dog.
Tenor. The piano-playing character and Lucy's love interest who is obsessed with Beethoven. Generally a very passive character, he is content to play his music, but can be angered quite easily, especially if his music or Beethoven are insulted.
*Based on auditions, the directors may choose to add a 7th cast member to play WOODSTOCK, the lovable and cranky yellow bird companion to Snoopy. If WOODSTOCK is added to the production, the performer will not sing or speak during the show, but could be added to scenes and dances.
