Buck Creek Players and Director Georgeanna Teipen are proud to announce upcoming auditions for the first show of its 2026-27 season Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance!! Auditions will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026, from 10am-2pm and on Sunday May 31, 2026, from 2pm-5pm at the Buck Creek Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis 46259. If callbacks are needed, they will be held Wednesday June 3, 2026 starting at 6:30pm. A pianist will be available or auditioners may use a track to audition.  Please no acapella auditions.

Sign up for an audition slot here.

Auditioners are asked to sign up for a timeslot on signup genius. No worries if you decide to audition at the last minute as you are welcome to come and will be fit in as slots avail.  Please just be patient with us as those who signed up ahead of time will be given the courtesy of auditioning at the time they selected and all others worked in as we can.  We really hope you will sign up though to give us an idea ahead of time how many folks we will be seeing on each day so we can plan accordingly and keep things moving on a timely basis.  Auditioners are encouraged to sing a refrain and chorus of a song from the show specific to any part they are auditioning for or a song of a similar nature.  Ensemble auditioners are also encouraged to sing a refrain and chorus of a song from the show specific to the ensemble. You may be asked to stay to read from the show and/or asked for a vocal range check by our vocal director, Rachelle Woolston. We will NOT be doing a dance/choreography audition as this show will primarily be a movement show rather than advanced choreography.

A resume and head shot are appreciated but no worries if you are without because pictures will be taken at sign in.  Please also bring a list of all conflicts that you have from 6/22/26-8/16/26.  No conflicts will be allowed that are not previously scheduled (unless it is a true emergency) after 8/10/26 given the size of this show and the true ensemble nature of this production overall.

A total cast of 20-25 diverse actors/singers are sought for this production.  Rehearsals will tentatively begin 6/22/26 depending upon the schedules of those cast and a detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided as soon as possible after casting is complete.  The Pirates of Penzance will run 8/28, 8/29, 8/30, 9/4, 9/5, and /9/6.

This classic operetta comedy tells the story of Frederic who was erroneously brought to the Pirates of Penzance when he was a little boy by his hard of hearing nursemaid Ruth after instruction by Frederic’s father for Frederic to become an apprentice “pilot”….it wasn’t until years later Ruth realized her mistake.  On Frederic’s twenty-first birthday he is released from his apprenticeship by the Pirate King and wishes to seek a life outside of piracy.  Although Ruth wishes to marry Frederic, she is much older than he is and has to assure him that she is in fact a beautiful woman. But Frederic realizes this is not the case when he sees a group of other young and beautiful women for the first time consisting of Mabel and her sisters who are the daughters of the Major General Stanley. The antics begin and continue throughout this adventure and fun-filled tale and the result is a happy ending of love come true.
