SYNOPSIS:
One afternoon, Anthony arrives unexpectedly at classmate Caroline's door bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, an urgent assignment from their English teacher. Homebound due to illness, Caroline hasn't been to school in months, but she is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. I and You is an ode to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.

A NOTE ON CASTING:
Director Cathy Cutshall and Assistant Director Scout Dunlevy are looking for 1 female and 1 male actor. The race of each character can be any. The only essentiality is that the characters are not the same race.
AVAILABLE ROLES:
ANTHONY
High school (17 years old*, Male)
He is neat, poised, mature for his age. He’s an A student, a team player, a nice guy. He’s not really great around girls. He takes his homework very seriously. When he likes something (like jazz music), he is all in. Throughout the play he looks at Caroline like he’s trying to figure her out. Like he really needs to know who she is.
CAROLINE
High school (17 years old*, Female)
She does not expect company. She is sick but doesn’t project that fact. She is cynical, over it, does not let a stray “feeling” near the surface. Her room is her entire world.
*A note on the ages of actors: We are seeking performers with the youthful energy and look of a 17-year-old. We encourage actors in the 18-25 age range who feel they have the right presence for this stage age.
