In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler On The Roof has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. It's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. Six performances are scheduled over two weekends, July 25-August 3, 2008.

Those auditioning will be asked to bring sheet music of a prepared song to sing in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Pre-recorded accompaniment music and unaccompanied singing will not be allowed. Please bring comfortable clothes and shoes for a very brief movement audition. Auditioners may be asked to read from the script. Please bring a listing of all conflicts (Sunday through Saturday) from mid-June through early August.

Reading copies of the script will available for perusal beginning Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Information Desk of the Franklin Road Branch Library, 5550 South Franklin Road; and at the 4th Floor Information Desk of the I-MCPL Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street.  Click here for the library's hours of operation.
