Buck Creek Playhouse will hold open auditions for the musical within a comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. Director D. Scott Robinson and Vocal Director Matthew Konrad Tippel are looking for eight men, five woman, and a small ensemble of men and women for this large cast show. Auditioners should come prepared with sixteen to twenty measures of an audition song with sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. No accompaniment tracks or unaccompanied singing, please. Please come prepared to dance, and bring tap shoes if you have them. You may be asked to read from the script or to sing from the score. All roles are available. *If cast as Robert Martin, George, or Underling, you may be asked to purchase your own tap shoes for the production.

The Drowsy Chaperone is scheduled for a nine-performance run June 1-17, 2012. To peruse a reading copy of the script, please contact us at buckcreekplayers@yahoo.com. Please bring a list of all conflicts from March through June 2012.

If you’ve ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, “Dear Lord in Heaven, please let it be good,” then this is the musical comedy for you! It all begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan plays his favorite cast album on his record player, and the musical literally bursts to life around him in his living room, telling the rambunctious and comedic tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love. The Drowsy Chaperone, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, pays tribute to the Jazz-age shows of the 1920’s and the power those shows held to transport us into a dazzling fantasy…lifting our spirits in times of need.
